Claire and James worked on behalf of Made Open Communications to create a series of news-style videos with Aspires’ Dreadnought Centre, Pool. The Dreadnought News was an informational autism video series in Cornwall. It was produced to present information about Autism Services to families in a new format. These news videos present Cornwall Council’s new Children’s Autism Strategy to other Autistic young people and their families.
We provided Made Open with an end-to-end video production service. This included initial planning, camera and sound on the shoot to editing, mixing, and colour grading.
Claire assisted in running filmmaking workshops with the young people at the Dreadnought Centre. These were held before they got involved in planning and filming the news reports.
About the Project
The young people attended a couple of planning days, working with the Made Open Communications team and Claire and James from Porth Sound. During these days, we ran several ideas workshops to develop ways to present the information through film. Several of the young people had interests in video production from school or college, so they took on particular roles such as presenters or assistant editors. We decided on the ‘News’ format, and then scheduled interviews with members of Cornwall Council. A group of four young people visited County Hall and conducted interviews for their News shows. Another designed the logo that features in the autism video series in Cornwall.
After filming, we discussed the format for the editing stages and chose to create individual reports. Two of the young people joined Claire in the editing suite to discuss cuts, choice of video clips to overlay interviews and graphic colours. The videos were checked with the Dreadnought Centre and leads at Cornwall Council before being released to share online.
